The purpose of the Tribute Services is to recognize individual(s) for dedicated service to their faith and ecumenical communities; or outstanding community service in, Allegheny County, Beaver County, Lawrence County, Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. The work of these awardees is acknowledged in memory of the late Pastors Charles and Mattie Scott.
Pastor and Mother Scott served in ministry at The Church in the Round, since 1962, under the leadership of The Bishop Melvin E. Clark Sr. They were appointed to oversee the Church In The Round New Caste in 1980.
The New Castle Satellite Church, established by Bishop Clark was aka The Church In The Round New Castle. Pastor Charles Scott, known as a dedicated Man of Prayer and Fasting for the sick, shut in and incarcerated launched Prayer Chapel COGIC in 1985.
Prayer Chapel Ministries formally aka The Church In The Round, New Castle is one of the original expansion or satellite ministries established by the innovative and visionary leadership of Bishop Melvin E. Clark Sr. Presiding Prelate, Second Jurisdiction, Western Pennsylvania. The Aliquippa Church In The Round’s local membership swelled to over 2000 members in the 70s,and 80s. The First Church of God In Christ, Aliquippa, PA, aka The Church In The Round was one of the country’s first Megachurches, before the term was coined in the late 1980s.
Pastor Charles and Mother Mattie Scott served, provided stellar leadership and discipleship; committed to our mission: Presenting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Pastor Charles Scott came to know the Lord in 1960 at The First Church of God In Christ, Aliquippa. Having proven himself faithful, he was appointed a Deacon in 1965. Deacon Scott continued stellar and faithful service and was recognized a true man of prayer and fasting for the man of God and the people of God. Deacon Charles Scott continued steadfast and heard the voice of the Lord again; this time his calling to A Holy Call of Ministry. He continued to submit himself to God’s leadership and was ordained an Elder in August 1978. Bishop Melvin E. Clark Sr. Presiding Prelate, Second Jurisdiction, Western Pennsylvania appointed Elder Scott as Pastor of The Church In The Round COGIC, New Castle, 1980. In 1990, Bishop Clark installed Pastor Scott as Pastor, Prayer Chapel COGIC, where he served faithfully until his transition, March 1998.
Mother Scott came to know the Lord in 1958 at First Church of God in Christ, in Aliquippa. . Mother Scott headed the Jubilee Kitchen, was a missionary, had leadership roles in the women’s department and was a mother to hundreds if not thousands over the years having proved herself faithful, Mother Scott was appointed as an Evangelist. She served in the Sunday School, Bible Band, Morning Prayer, YPWW, and intense evangelistic training and coaching. Mother Scott heard and answered the call to the ministry, studied to show herself approved, and was anointed Pastor/Stewardess in 1998. She pastored the church after Pastor Charles went home to be with the Lord for 14 years. She is a amazing woman of faith and strength.
Pastor Scott served her charge faithfully until she went on to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 8, 2012..
They grew the ministry, expanded the CIR Brand and served faithfully until the Lord called them Home. The Legacy they left is why serve the Lord, honor them and continue to serve others.
Rev. Ivan James Scott, third son of the Scotts was officially installed as Sr. Pastor, September 2016, by Bishop James E. Foster, Prelate, 1st Jurisdiction of The Church of God In Christ, Western Pennsylvania.
